AEye Wins Best Innovative Sensor Technology Award at IDTechEx

AEye’s iDAR Recognized for Creating a Smart Sensor that is Fully Software Definable

SANTA CLARA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#AI–Today artificial perception pioneer AEye announced it has been awarded Best Innovative Sensor Technology at IDTechEx. The award is given to the sensor technology with the most significant new innovation, or that can impact our life most significantly. AEye’s iDAR™ (Intelligent Detection and Ranging) Artificial Perception platform was given the top honors for its agile, situationally adaptive solid state LiDAR which brings powerful sensing capabilities to ADAS and autonomous vehicle initiatives, as well as transportation and industrial automation, IoT, mapping and other non-automotive markets.

This week, AEye announced breakthrough perception advancements made possible by its 2D/3D perception system, and its plans to make these capabilities available as an iDAR reference library. The iDAR perception system is designed to run in the sensors of autonomous vehicles and is intended to accelerate the availability of autonomous features in vehicles across all SAE levels of human engagement – allowing automakers and mobility companies to enable the right amount of autonomy for any desired use case.

AEye’s iDAR platform models biomimicry in its AI architecture to create responsive, intelligent machines that solve the most challenging edge cases for automakers, while accelerating the availability of autonomous features in all industries — providing autonomy “on demand” for ADAS, mobility and adjacent markets.

“We are honored to be recognized by IDTechEx as the Best Innovative Sensor Technology,” said Dr. Barry Behnken, co-founder and SVP of Engineering at AEye. “As the world’s first commercially available 2D/3D perception system designed to run at the sensor level, we know we’ve created a disruptive system that raises the bar on perception, while giving our customers a platform for perception innovation where they can create use-case specific applications which improve processes and safety in their industry.”

AEye’s iDAR Artificial Perception platform combines software extensibility, artificial intelligence and smart, agile sensors to deliver intelligent data collection at the sensor level. The company’s AE110 product features the industry’s only software-definable LiDAR, creating an open platform for perception innovation that lets software engineers optimize data collection to best meet their needs. The AE200 system is designed to address the needs of modular, high-performance sensors, and is optimized for size, weight, power, and cost.

“Each year at the IDTechEx Show, we honor a company with the Best Innovative Sensor Technology award for its development and achievement in the sensor innovation and commercialization area,” said Dr. Richard Collins, Senior Technology Analystat IDTechEx. “Our judges chose AEye amongst many impressive entrants for its creation of a smart sensor with software extension capability. By creating a perception system at the sensor level, AEye’s disruptive approach has the potential to deliver perception at speed and at range, one of the most difficult challenges facing the autonomous industry.”
