Québec City, Québec — Honda Civic and Acura CSX owners may finally see a settlement reached regarding their vehicles’ peeling paint following Honda Canada’s proposed settlement.
The OEM has proposed a $27 million settlement in regard to peeling paint issues on 2006 through 2013 Honda Civics and 2006 through 2011 Acura CSX models, to be split between up to 30,000 vehicle owners in Québec.
In 2019, two law firms were given the green light to file class-action suits against Honda Canada for defective paint on 2006 through 2013 model year Honda Civics and 2006 through 2011 Acura CSX models. The firms alleged that, for 15 years, Honda Canada sold cars with paint defects in the North American market.
On June 27 the Superior Court of Québec will rule on the proposed settlement.
If an agreement is reached, the minimal amount owners will be eligible for will be $125, though Radio-Canada says there are three other possible payouts:
- Receive up to $2,550 for the vehicle to be repainted
- Honda Canada has authorized approximately 100 bodyshops to perform the work
- Receive a cash indemnity equivalent to 60 percent of the work reimbursement, for a maximum of $1,530, should the owner not wish to have the vehicle repainted
- Compensation for loss of value at resale up to $1,530, for owners that have resold affected vehicles without repairs
Forms to submit a claim in the suit will be available here no later than May 16, 2022.
