Turo Launches in New York State

Turo will celebrate its expansion by unveiling limited-edition Hamptons getaways for $50/weekend

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Starting today, Turo, the world’s largest peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace, is officially open for business in New York state. New Yorkers and tourists can book cars from local hosts in New York, making them the first and only car sharing marketplace available in all 50 states. In celebration of their nationwide expansion, Turo is offering limited-edition Hamptons weekend getaways for New York residents throughout the month of July.

Turo has curated five luxury, beach-ready cars to comprise the New York Beach Collection, for New Yorkers to book for a Hamptons getaway for just $50 per weekend ($25/day). During each weekend in July, locals booking one of the cars from the curated Beach Collection (complete with beach essentials) will embark on a luxury getaway including a two-night stay at Ruschmeyer’s in Montauk and access to exclusive experiences such as private boat rides with Montauk Sail, VIP tickets to Polo Hamptons matches, Wolffer Estate wine tasting and dinner at Scarpetta Beach. Full details on the New York Beach Collection and booking on Turo can be found here.

With summer travel ramping up, this couldn’t have come at a better time for both visitors heading to New York and New Yorkers looking to escape the summer heat and get out of town in the getaway car of their dreams,” said Andre Haddad, CEO and All-Star Host at Turo. “Bringing peer-to-peer car sharing to the Empire State means bringing more choice to New York consumers, and we’re thrilled to bring Turo to more consumers and more destinations.”

The company’s expansion to New York comes after the passing of a new law signed by the New York state legislature and Governor Kathy Hochul goes into effect this month. This law better defines peer-to-peer car sharing and signifies the increasing acceptance of the industry among state governments across the country.

Car sharing promises to be an important new part of our economy as it taps into our technological resources, and I believe it will further serve New York’s transportation needs,” said Governor Hochul in a bill approval memo on December 22, 2021.

As a result of Turo launching in New York, entrepreneurial locals are now able to build small businesses to supplement their income by taking advantage of the Empire State’s status as one of the busiest travel hubs in the world. Travelers will now have expanded mobility options while providing economic opportunities for New York residents seeking to generate extra income.

Turo has grown over the past 10 years to become the world’s largest car sharing marketplace, spanning over 8,000 cities, with over 2 million active guests and 217,000 active vehicles on the platform as of March 31, 2022. Earlier this month, Turo announced the acquisition of OuiCar, an established leader in the car sharing industry in France. That acquisition supports broader expansion plans in Europe and complements the company’s existing offering across the US, UK and Canada.
